COMET is a consortium led by Imperial College and involving 6 major pharmaceutical companies. The project has appled metabonomic techniques to generate a large database of model toxins.
This is accompanied by an expert system – a series of mathematical models that define the structures within the database corresponding to different types of toxicity.
COMET II aims to extend COMET, using a combination of -omics techniques to elucidate the biological mechanisms behind drug-toxicity.
Members may pick COMET I or COMET II to proceed.
COMET supports the SMRS group and its metabonomic reporting standard.
